Assalam-o-alaikum, and welcome
Thank you for being here for the very first issue of The Monthly Letter. If we have not met yet, I am Zoraiz Mughal — I write at ZoraizMughal.com about artificial intelligence and digital transformation for the Pakistani diaspora, from New York to Multan and everywhere our families now call home.
Every month I will send you exactly three things: one idea worth thinking about, one tool worth trying, and one small action you can finish in about ten minutes. No hype, no jargon, and nothing you need a computer-science degree to use.
This month, we start where my own journey started: learning how to learn again.
New here? Start with the free AI Starter Checklist — a short, plain-language guide for beginners: how to start with AI, three prompts every beginner needs, uses for family and work, safety basics, and a 7-day starter plan. Download it free.
This month’s big idea: Learn, Unlearn, Relearn
The most useful skill in the age of AI is not a tool. It is the willingness to set down what used to work, pick up what works now, and stay a student while you do it. I call it Learn, Unlearn, Relearn — and it is the idea my whole site is built on.
Learning is the easy part to praise. Unlearning is harder: it asks us to admit that a habit, a workflow, or even a belief that served us well for years may be the very thing holding us back. Relearning is where the growth is — doing the familiar thing in a new way, with new tools, without feeling you have betrayed the old one.
For our generation — raised between two countries, two languages, and two ways of doing almost everything — this is not new. We have been relearning our whole lives. AI just asks us to do it once more, on purpose this time.
“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.” — commonly attributed to Alvin Toffler
I wrote the full essay on this — including seven practical ways to adapt when everything around you changes — on the blog. Read the full essay, “The Power of Learn, Unlearn, and Relearn“.
Tool of the month: stop collecting, start choosing
The most common question I hear is, “Which AI tool should I use?” The honest answer is: one. One tool, for one job you already do, used well for a month, will teach you more than twenty accounts you opened and forgot.
That is why I built the Zoraiz AI Tools directory: 48 tools in 11 plain categories — assistants, writing, design, video, marketing, SEO, coding, business, education, social media, and productivity. This month, don’t browse all 48. Pick your category — the job you already spend time on — and choose a single tool from it. Browse the AI Tools directory.
Try this in 10 minutes
Reading about AI changes nothing. Using it once changes everything. Three beginner prompts from the Starter Checklist — copy any one into the AI assistant you already have:
- Explain it simply: “Explain [any topic] to me like I am smart but brand new to it. Use an everyday example, then give me a 3-step way to learn more.”
- Draft it for me: “Write a polite, short message to [person] about [situation]. Keep it warm, keep it under 80 words, and give me two versions — formal and friendly.”
- Plan it with me: “I have [time available] and I want to [goal]. Make me a simple 7-day plan, one small step per day, nothing longer than 20 minutes.”
You stay the decision-maker. AI drafts, explains, and organises — you judge, edit, and send. Get the full checklist here.
From the book: Roots & Wings
Roots & Wings — Visionary Insights in a Digital Landscape — gathers my essays into four parts and closes with “The Power of Learn, Unlearn, and Relearn.” It is written for readers like us: rooted in where we come from, reaching for where we are going. The book is coming soon on Amazon in Kindle and paperback — Monthly Letter readers hear about it here first. See the book page.
