The Consulate General of Pakistan in New York hosted a dignified and memorable reception to mark Pakistan Day, drawing a large gathering of distinguished Pakistani-American community members, scholars, journalists, philanthropists, and community leaders. The event served not only as a celebration of national pride but also as a testament to the enduring bond between Pakistan and its diaspora in the United States.
The ceremony commenced with the national flag hoisting, led by Consul General Mr. Aamer Ahmed Atozai, accompanied by officers of the Consulate. Messages from the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read aloud, paying tribute to the historic significance of March 23. A short documentary further illuminated the importance of the Pakistan Resolution of 1940 and its lasting legacy.
In his keynote address, Consul General Atozai reflected on the profound meaning of Pakistan Day, emphasizing the foundational values of unity, perseverance, and national identity. He underscored the vital contributions of the Pakistani-American community in fostering stronger bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United States, and in elevating Pakistan’s image globally through their achievements and advocacy.
The Consul General extended special recognition to the American Pakistani Advocacy Group (APAG) and its President, Mr. Ali Rashid, for their instrumental role in the passage of two historic resolutions by the New York State Assembly and Senate. These resolutions officially designate March 23, 2025, as Pakistan-American Heritage Day and March 19, 2025, as Pakistani-American Business Celebration Day. Mr. Atozai noted that such legislative acknowledgments represent significant milestones and reflect the growing influence and integration of Pakistani-Americans within the sociocultural and economic fabric of New York.
Adding a deeply emotional and patriotic tone to the evening was a heartfelt performance by Pakistan’s iconic singer and Pride of Performance awardee, Mr. Amjad Hussain. His soulful rendition of a beloved national song stirred pride and nostalgia among attendees, making the occasion all the more memorable.
